2 Fabio Sabatini (Ita) Liquigas-Doimo

3 Julian Dean (NZl) Garmin - Transitions

General classification
1 Alexandre Vinokourov (Kaz) Astana

Red jersey (Maglia Rossa) report: I've had a request to explain the red jersey that Cadel was riding in yesterday. It's not something exciting like a ‘combination' style jersey, that is awarded to whoever has the most points in both mountain & sprint categories, kind of an aggregate award, which is a category that the Tour of Spain (La Vuelta Espana) has run for awhile. It is simply the NEW 2010 colour for the sprinter's jersey, replacing Cyclamen from previous years. Cadel was leading the sprint points competition with 48 points, from Vinokourov on 47. Back to normal today though, with the US sprinter Tyler Farrar riding & winning in La Maglia Rossa.

Skippy report: Beautiful, the map of Australia shown in today's La Gazetta, indicating to the (Italian) world just where Tasmania is, the home of yesterday's stage winner. See it here: (http://twitpic.com/1owic6 ) If you ever get to have a conversation with Phil Anderson, ask him about when he first took the yellow jersey in the Tour de France, at the age of 21. Post stage, in front of a crowd, and the press, the race management produced a map of the world, and asked Phil to point out just where Australia was located. It's a wonder they didn't ask him to imitate a Kangaroo.... Re the picture, where the hell are Perth, Adelaide & Brisbane anyway?  Just as well they didn't leave out Bourke...there'd a been a riot.

The Bike Race:

Three stages kick start the race in Holland, before they transfer to Savigliano in Italy's north west Piedmonte region. The Writer:

David Olle's cycling reports are used by ABC radio's 774 DRIVE show in Melbourne, ABC radio 702 breakfast show in Sydney, ABC national overnights and 3RRR FM's Breakfasters. He chats regularly with all. He also created and produces the magazine style TV show ‘Topbike TV' which is seen throughout Australia and New Zealand on community televison. The reports are also published here, www.cyclesportnews.com, along with any photos.

These reports are independent, opinionated, Australian biased, and could miss a day here and there, along with containing the odd error.

We aim to send these reports daily, while any worthy bike race is on. You have the power to control your interest in these reports, see details below.

We also run good bike tours.
