General report
The Tour's first hilltop finish.  Sylvain Chavanel is getting France all excited, reclaiming yellow today.  France, and the rest of us, must remember, that it is a long way to Paris...  (and there is another hilltop finish tomorrow).

Skippy report:  Cadel has moved up one place to second on GC (General Classification).  This can be a blessing and better than being in yellow, as the race lead can be a weight on your shoulders, and a strain on your team.

Cuisine report:  I'm a long way off duck overload, but, I have consumed an almost excessive amount of soft, melting, brie-style cheeses.  Overload can't be too far away.  Funny how one craves them though, immediately, upon return home.

Tomorrow:  Stage 8    Sunday, July 11    189 km     Station des Rousses → Morzine-Avoriaz
This first Alpine stage runs between Station des Rousses and Morzine-Avoriaz.  It ascends the Col de la Ramaz and finishes on high at the ski station at Avoriaz.  During the 1970s, uphill time trials to Avoriaz were all the rage, and Lucien Van Impe twice celebrated victory at the ski station.  Lucho Herrero won the first road stage to finish there in 1985. With only two major climbs, this first Alpine stage serves as a prelude to the more difficult day that follows it.  (from www.steephill.tv)

For those in Australia, SBS shows a daily report on the Tour de France, along with many stages broadcast live, catch them if you can.
Not forgetting our own Topbike TV on digital channel 44, check your local guide for details.

The Bike Race:
This year's Tour starts in the Netherlands (making that 3 grand tour prologues in a row, for Holland) belts into Belgium, before following a clockwise trace around France, finishing, of course, on the Champs Elysee in Paris.  July 3-25, 3,596 kilometres, more than enough for anyone.
