Skippy report: Today we spoke to Cadel Evans, Richie Porte, Mattie Lloyd, Graeme Brown, Mat Hayman, Neil Stephens, Shayne Bannan, Martine Barras all luminaries of Australian cycling and all were in good spirits concerning Australia's best results at a grand tour. Well done to us.
Cuisine report: Pizzoccheri. It's a pasta dish of the Valtellina region (near Ponte di Legno) google the recipe and have a go at making it. Let me know if it turns out any good. There have been many cucina experiences this Giro which have not made it to print. I shall try and précis a few for a report before Le Tour.
Tomorrow: We're going home in the back of a Divvy van...well, not really, some of us are off to other pastures, in other countries, or cooling down before the Tour de France kicks into gear in July. Team Topbike is having a little break, and may race a 4 stage MTB event up in Austria, or maybe take a little journey by train, down to the Campania region (Napoli) and enjoy some fresh Mozarella di Bufala. See you, back with these reports, next month.
The Bike Race: Three stages kick start the race in Holland, before they transfer to Savigliano in Italy's north west Piedmonte region. From here the race heads further south, through Tuscany, across to Abruzzo before returning to the Dolomites in the north-east and the event's Grand Finale in Verona. 198 riders (14 from Australia) complete 21 stages over 3 weeks, visiting 2 countries en route, with just 2 rest days. 3,416 kilomtres, running May 8 - 30.
