Giro d'Italia, May 8 - 30, 2010, Monday, May 24, Rest day (2) in Friuli
We have two teams staying in our hotel for the three nights we are in Villabassa, Acqua Sapone & Caisse d'Epargne. Had breakfast with the maglia rosa this AM.
Photos: look for this in today's TT http://www.twitpic.com/1qtfd0 , http://www.twitpic.com/1qth8h
Skippy report: today, while all the other teams carried out reconnaissance together, riding the bitumen and dirt TT hillclimb course, there was one rider doing it on his own. Yes, our own Cadel.
Cuisine report: Reached food overload last night, could have stopped after the buffet salad, but went the primo, secondo & dolce that followed... ‘Twas too much. But have noted wild mushroom risotto on tonight's menu, can't see myself missing that.
Ride Report: Rode the bottom half of the TT course today, just the bitumen, 565 metres of ascent over 7.5k, in just under 36 minutes. Happily keeping to my PA (personal average) of 100 metres ascent in 6 minutes. Contador does the same in 3 minutes. Expect similar times to appear tomorrow, ie winner's time around
For those in Australia, SBS2 does a daily report on the Giro d'Italia (Tour of Italy) called by Matt Keenan in the evenings, catch them if you can.
Tomorrow: Stage 16 Tuesday, May 25, 12.8 km, Individual Time Trial (uphill, half road, half dirt) S. Vigilio di Marebbe → Plan de Corones profile | map | timetable | preview |
The Bike Race: Three stages kick start the race in Holland, before they transfer to Savigliano in Italy's north west Piedmonte region. From here the race heads further south, through Tuscany, across to Abruzzo before returning to the Dolomites in the north-east and the event's Grand Finale in Verona. 198 riders (14 from Australia) complete 21 stages over 3 weeks, visiting 2 countries en route, with just 2 rest days. 3,416 kilomtres, running May 8 - 30.
